Abstract
- The author reflects on the options available to General Electric for the restructuring of its balance sheet. The use by GE Capital of commercial paper seemed to make sense when times were good because it was cheaper. According to Barclays Capital, with $66 billion of debt maturing, that could give GE breathing room to sort out its balance sheet. The author says GE shows sign of wanting to retain a modified version of GE Capital's wholesale finance model.
