Abstract

A general analytical solution of the coupling problem is proposed which is based on the first-principle equations and standard operations of the electromagnetic theory. This allows direct calculation of the plasma-produced magnetic field after calculating the perturbed plasma equilibrium. The described method leads to the desired result in a more simple and direct way than those used in earlier applications such as coupling of linear MHD solvers to 3D codes for the computation of eddy currents in the metallic structures surrounding the plasma and studying the plasma response to external magnetic perturbations. To facilitate the use of the coupling equations, they are presented in several forms: in terms of the magnetic field, through its scalar potential in vacuum, and via the equivalent surface current. The reduction of the coupling equations is shown from the full toroidal formulation to the cylindrical single-mode limit. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
