Abstract
- Taiwan's central bank lowered its benchmark interest rate on Sunday, adding to a series of cuts in the United States, Europe and Asia aimed at preventing a prolonged global recession. It was the fourth time in two months that the bank cut rates. The Taiwanese central bank reduced the discount rate on 10-day loans to banks to 2.75 percent, from 3 percent, effective Monday, the bank's governor, Perng Fai-nan, said at a news conference in Taipei. Taiwan cut rates twice in October and once in September. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
