Abstract

The sciatic pain is a disabling symptom often appearing as a result of degenerative changes of the lumbar spine. The pain can be classified as nociceptive, neuropathic. With great frequency in column pathology both types of pain coexist (mixed pain). Raquiestenosis or narrow channel syndrome occurs in 3% of patients with low back pain and is the result of chronic disc degeneration, spinal instability and the body's attempt "to halt" this phenomenon, resulting in hypertrophy of facet joints that further reduce the neural space. Treatment of the neuropathic component (lumbar) depend on the origin and extent of neurological damage. Patients with sphincters disturbances or pelvic anesthesia require surgical treatment.
