Abstract

The article discusses the forecast of Tom Scott, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Informa Economics, regarding the U.S. cotton industry. Scott predicts that the price of U.S. cotton will continue to decline in six to nine months, while the cotton acreage will fall to 6 million acres in 2015. Among the reasons for the decline of cotton acreage include competition from food and energy crops, availability of cotton biotechnology, and increase of synthetic fiber competition.
