Multiple Sleep Latency Test and Maintenance of Wakefulness Test.

The article presents a laboratory-based tests using the multiple sleep latency test (MSLT) and the maintenance of wakefulness test (MWT). The MSLT measures physiologic sleepiness while MWT aims to measure manifest sleepiness. The testing methods, clinical applications, and limitations of both studies are offered. MSLT is a reliable tool used in subjects with excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) while MWT has been used to evaluate individuals who must remain awake for job safety.
