Abstract

The author reflects on the clinical management of laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR). He urges otolaryngologists and gastroenterologists to expand their knowledge about the latest concepts in basic science and clinical care of patients with LPR to improve its reporting and diagnosis. He calls for more evidence-based studies in the field. He says that the problems faced by physicians in diagnosing LPR are the definition of normal acid exposure in the larynx and appropriate evaluation protocol, and management of patients with persistent signs and symptoms.
