Abstract
- This essay presents the uses of the work of philosopher Georg Hegel, a German philosopher, to analyze conflicts in the 21st century world. It analyzes the presence of Sophocles' play "Antigone" in Hegel's work "Phenomenology of Spirit." The author argues that contemporary discourses do not acknowledge the conflicts between values defended by cultural minorities and the state. The essay mentions decolonization, Western democratic societies in the 20th century, Muslim fundamentalism, the paradigm of modernity, tragic conflicts, and non-modern modes of religious, cultural, and ethnic particularity.
