Abstract

This paper analyzes the role of emotions in foreign policy decision making by looking at the decisions taken by the U.S. Presidents on foreign issues. While the role of emotions in decision making has been increasingly receiving consideration, this paper studies specific decisions of the U.S. Presidents on foreign issues. From the decisions taken in the Vietnam War to the rescue operation decision in the Iranian Hostage Crisis a dataset will be coded for each President accordingly. After hypotheses testing, the results will be discussed as to whether or not emotions did play a role in foreign policy decision making. ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
