Abstract

The article discusses the sport fox hunting as practiced in the United States. The sport's image of aristocratic pretentiousness and cruelty is said to be quite different from the actual experience, which involves falling off horses in the woods while dogs run around barking. The rarity of experiencing even one day where everything goes smoothly is stressed, and the fact that a fox is much more likely to be hit by a car than caught by hounds is noted.
