Abstract
- The article discusses the impact of population ageing in Canada on eye care professionals and industries. It says that demographics currently indicate that the percentage of seniors in the Canadian population is rapidly increasing according to Statistics Canada. As such, Canada's ageing population should be an area of concern for the ophthalmic industry. Meanwhile, some of the eye-related conditions that affect thousands of Canadian seniors include the age-related macular degeneration (AMD), cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. It also stresses the need for medical schools to increase awareness about the predicted surge in the ageing population, with the hope of peaking the interests of new students, who should be encouraged to join eye care professionals.
