Abstract

The article explores the depiction of women in the poetry of authors Ovid and Edmund Spenser. The author illustrates examples of Ovidian influence on Spenser's book "The Faerie Queene" and how the female characters in the poem diverge from this influence. Spenser's characters embody an anguished mental state and redefine female devotion. Other topics include the translator George Turberville, the book "Heroides," and erotic desire in literature.
