Abstract

The article reports on the increase in prices of U.S. Treasury bonds as of September 4, 2008. The increase was attributed to the decline in oil prices and unease about the U.S. economy. The benchmark 10-year note rose $4.0625 per $1,000 face value to yield 3.697%. The 30-year bond also increased at 103 1/32 to yield 4.318%. The higher prices of the government bonds were linked to investors funneling money out of inflation-protected securities and into nominal Treasurys and extension trades.
