Abstract
- The article outlines the phylogeny, biogeography and divergence of Iridaceae based on its plastid DNA sequences. The phylogenetic analyses of sequences of five plastid DNA regions confirms that most aspects of this classification and the evolutionary patterns they imply. Study shows that uniting a widely circumscribed Niveniodeae and Crocoideae seems undesirable since Niveniodeae have none of the synapomorphies of Crocoideae.
