Abstract
- The article provides information on the efforts of researcher Abraham Stroock to investigate how plants transport water against gravity. When he was still a graduate student in engineering at Harvard University, his interests turned to a question on how do Sequoia sempervirens transport water all the way from their roots to distant leaves. Ten years later, Stroock and a graduate student Tobias Wheeler built a synthetic tree, a microfluidic device that mimics the water-transportation capabilities of nature's tallest plants.
