Abstract

The article discusses the developments in high-resolution image processing of satellite and airborne remote sensors and its significance on managing natural and manmade resources and disasters. The synthetic aperture radar (SAR) systems, which are active sensors that provide a high-spatial resolution over wide areas despite weather or other conditions. The European Union (EU) has employed such technologies to enhance the ability to monitor the Earth for environmental and security purposes.
