Abstract

The article presents a roundtable discussion about the sales outlook for digital cameras in the second half of 2008. According to Eliott Peck of Canon, the sales of compact point-and-shoot cameras is going to struggle, while the digital-single lens reflex (d-SLR) cameras will see growth. Phil Lubell of Sony believes that the growth of sales for digital cameras will be between 5 and 10 percent. When asked whether the success of ultra zoom cameras reflects the wariness of consumers to d-SLRs, Michael Hunter of Olympus points out that the long-zoom cameras meet the demand of consumers for a camera that can capture great images and, at the same time, does all the work.
