Abstract

The article discusses the essay "Scholarly Publishing Initiatives," which is contained in the 2007 report of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The report pushes the foundation's constituents to learn how to work better together while reassuring them that what they do is vital and should endure. The essay reports that university-press output amounted to just 5 percent of the total number of books produced by U.S. publishers in 2005. Despite this fact, the significance of university press publishing is still huge.
