Abstract

The article reports that Northrop Grumman is testing an airborne radar that can track individuals as they leave their vehicles to plant roadside bomb. The system, which includes an active, electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, is built in under the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's Vehicle and Dismount Exploitation Radar (Vader) program. Program manager Brian Reise says the challenge in building Vader is maintaining very low noise in the antenna and processor.
