Abstract
- The article focuses on well mingqi, an item or ceramic well buried in a tomb with a dead person, during the Han Dynasty in China. It says that the excavation made by the Luoyang Archaeological Excavation Team on 86 graves in northern China shows that Han families possess well mingqi in their tombs. It tells that the wells have three components such as well body below the ground surface, wellhead above the ground surface, and the superstructure above the wellhead which distinguishes the primitive well from the sophisticated one. It presents several well minqis that are used and designed in Northern China and Southern China. Ceramic wells such as irrigation wells, and wells for extinguishing fires are also described.
