Abstract

Social action is one of the three main pillars that identify the work done every day at the University of Costa Rica. It is not only a bridge that communicates the Alma Mater with Costa Rican society. Supported by both teaching and research, social action is the means through which development and social change is promoted. Faculty and students are involved in work with different groups and communities, doing a diverse number of tasks throughout the country. Both of them obtain knowledge, develop new skills and gain experience according to the field they are in. The author of this article aims to share with faculty, students and readers in general, the experience of the School of Social Work --at UCR, branch Rodrigo Facio- in the development of social action projects and activities throughout the country and with diverse population. The author hopes that the experience described might be useful to other people or academic units. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
