Abstract

The article looks into the chronology and mechanisms of Younger Dryas cold event and related climate change events. In the report by Robert P. Ackert Jr. and colleagues entitled "Patagonian Glacier Response during the Late Glacial-Holocene Transition," published within the issue, Ackert et al suggest that Younger Dryas advanced during the early Holocene as a result of changes in southern westerly wind circulation. To determine the chronology of Younger Dryas events, radiocarbon or surface-exposure dating of past glacial extents is used. However, results may differ using these approaches which might be because both may yield accurate ages of different stratigraphic levels or offsets may result from uncertainties associated with dating techniques.
