This paper analyses a series of representations of work during job searching in young people in La Pampa. Job seeking is signified differently in view of diverse factors such as age, gender, education, and family background, among others, but most of the young persons under analysis share representations of work connected to instability, permanent risk, competition, individuality and survival. Such a situation has encouraged the researcher to explore the issues involved in the construction of these generalized social representations with the rigour and the degree of specialization the matter deserves.
