Abstract

Surface capped CdSe nano-crystals (NCs) have been synthesized from cadmium acetate and octeno-1,2,3-selenadiazole in tri-octylphosphine (TOP). Well dispersed CdSe nano-particles showed an absorption band at 522 nm (2.36 eV) and emissions at 525 nm at an excitation wavelength of 450 nm, revealing near band-gap emission from isolated crystals. Broadened X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern revealed cubic crystal structure of CdSe with crystallite size of less than 10 nm. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) showed that nano-crystals are air-stable and the presence of TOP around the particles was confirmed by infra-red (IR) spectroscopy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
