The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, in New York and Washington, besides shaking the idea of security that used to prevail in the United States, have inspired the adoption of a series of internal and external measures that go against human rights. On choosing such a course of action, the American Government, which had already been taking unilateral stances, with no concern for international law, may be destroying the movement for human rights on a world scale.
