Abstract
- Barbara S. Nowak examines gender relations among Btsisi', an indigenous, coastal community which traditionally engaged in maritime-related activities. She explores the diversity in livelihood activities that formed the basis of a community-based resource management adaptation that openly invited and supported women's full participation in fisheries activities. Environmental damage and the over-exploitation of resources have limited the livelihood options and left them with little ability to absorb shocks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
