Abstract

The article focuses on the purpose of remotely operated vehicles (ROV). It is stated that ROVs can map the sea floor, explore the ocean depths for scientists, and locate shipwrecks for archeologists. According to Chris Nicholson, founder of Deep Sea Systems International, ROVs are electromechanical equivalents of highly skilled human divers who go where man cannot go economically or physically. It is revealed that ROV plays a vital role in the development of offshore oil and gas reserves below ocean waters 3,000 to 4,000 meters deep. INSET: operating ROVs: it isn't playtime.
