Abstract

The article reports on a paper by the Drug Policy Alliance in New Jersey, which reveals that direct costs of incarceration are high and hidden costs are even higher. The paper titled "Wasting Money, Wasting Lives" is geared to support proposed legislation to provide judges more leeway in sentencing non-violent drug offenders. It is also discovered that the state has imprisoned drug offenders more than any other state in the U.S.
