Abstract

The article reports that Boeing is preparing for a major revamp of its 747 production line in Everett, Washington to prepare for the start of the upcoming 747-8 freighter assembly. Upgraded hydraulic and electric power systems, which will be used to help test the aircraft during final assembly, are being laid in trenches dug in slant positions in the floor of the 40-21 building. According to 747-8 deputy chief project engineer Michael Teal, the 25% release point milestone will be reached by about the fourth quarter of 2008.
