Abstract

Background: Quality of life is an individual perception of life position, under the particular cultural and value system context, and considering goals, expectations, rules and concerns. Objective: To evaluate quality of life of resident doctors at Hospital General de Occidente, Health Department, at Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico. Patients and methods: Every resident doctor registered to first year of surgical medical main subject, between March 2004 and March 2005, answered the Quality of Life Profile for Chronic Patients questionnaire in three periods: at them entry, six months later and 12 months later. Results: Most residents reported good quality of life at the beginning questionnaire (93%), which diminished in second measurement (63%), and rises again in third measurement, but without return to firs results. In statistical analysis with paired t Student samples, every quality of life health related scale has statistical significance within first and second measurements. Conclusions: Resident doctors health related quality of life falls during first six months and rises again 12 months later but without reaching base results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
