A theoretical synthesis of the relationship between economics and sport, this works only aims to be an introduction to the subject, and point out some economic fundamentals, as also macroeconomic and microeconomic elements, that exist in individual, business and governmental decisions when these consume, and produce goods and services associated with sports; in the same way that they do when demanding and producing other goods and services. At the international level, the study of sports from an economic perspective has become increasingly important in academic circles, particularly for its recognition as an economic sector with the same characteristics as traditional economic sectors. This is justified by the large amount of activities carried out in relation to sports activities in general, and events; that form part of a country's aggregate offer and demand. The work's principal contribution lies in demonstrating the range that sports' economy has from an economic point of view, at the same time as it presents an overview of the present development of said economics branch at the international and regional level.
