Abstract
- The article describes the state of prairie potholes in the U.S. The prairie pothole region (PPR) is the area covered by Wisconsin Pleistocene glaciation and is dominated by tall and mixed grasslands. The region also includes the areas of north central Iowa and western Minnesota, the North and South Dakota, and northeastern Montana. Formed by ice blocks buried in glacial till that has melted, prairie potholes are considered productive ecosystems which are significant to breeding waterfowl and other species of wetland wildlife.
