The author considers the use of celebrity sound bites in young adult nonfiction. An incident where the author was asked to participate in a formal challenge of a school library book on global warming because of the book's emphasis on celebrity quotations is discussed. The author argues that parents and school librarians cannot discount the role of popular media in young people's lives when promoting the reading of books.
