Abstract
- The article discusses the relationship of vodou and political revolt during the Haitian Revolution as depicted in literature. In the book "All Souls' Rising," author Madison Smartt Bell writes about vodou beliefs regarding how dead slaves haunt the living. In the novel "The Kingdom of This World," author Alejo Carpentier depicts the slave Macandal using vodou beliefs to inspire the slave population to poison colonists.
