Abstract

The article presents the study which sought to examine the effect of a dopamine reuptake inhibitor on exercise capacity and thermoregulation during prolonged exercise in temperate and warm conditions. Researchers recruited eight healthy well-trained male cyclists to participate and these subjects were ingested either placebo or methylphenidate (MPH) one hour before the start of exercise in temperate or warm conditions. Results showed that the combination of a dopamine reuptake inhibitor and exercise in the heat improved the performance and caused hyperthermia without any change in the thermal stress compared with the placebo trial.
