Abstract

The article reports on the Orobanche crenata parasitism on ornamental anemone in Israel. It mentions that Anemone coronaria L. was the new host for the obligatory parasitic weeds, O. crenata. Anemone is said to be a high value ornamental crop, which is commercially grown for cut flowers. The crop was heavily infected in 2005 by O. crenata. Although no symptoms or visible qualitative and quantitative damage was detected on infected anemone plants, the author declares that anemone appears to be an alternate host on which O. crenata can produce additional seed for the parasite seed bank.
