Abstract

The article focuses on the findings of a survey conducted through The Chronicle/Gallup Panel that a plurality of U.S. people favor presidential candidate Barack Obama to tackle college costs. Based on the survey, 42 percent of the respondents think that controlling college costs is extremely important for the next president to address. On the question of which candidate would do more to help families pay for college, Obama maintains a 13-point advantage, 32 percent to 19 percent, over presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton. Robert C. Lockwood, a partner in the Gallup Organization, claims that more than half of the respondents think that the U.S. government should have a role in controlling tuition.
