Abstract

With the purpose of obtaining the optimum growth of staghora form (Platycerium bifurcatum) in vitro, cultured gametophytes from spores were used. Starting from this culture. explants of young leaves and roots were grown in MS media supplied by different concentrations of 6-benzyl amino purine The optimum growth v. as obtained from root explants cultured in MS media with activated charcoal. This gave the best plant quality as well as homogeneous development and a good separation between plants. These plants were ready to start the acclimatization process in the green-house. The explants obtained from leaves did not grow-up in the media with activated charcoal. In this case, an oxidative process was observed in the tissue. On the other hand, the explants without the activated charcoal treatment, presented a high number of rhizoids. Finally, the plants obtained from roots treated whit activated charcoal, were put under ex vitro conditions after two months. No benefic effect was observed with the addition of the 6-benzyl amino purine. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
