Abstract
- The article reports on the influence of the International Geophysical Year (IGY) in Indian science. It states that IGY has enabled India to join the world club of science as an equal, support basic sciences, modernize its existing institutions, and prepare ground for new initiatives geared towards nation-building. One example is India's space program which was established from the IGY exposure. It also emphasized the dependence for assessment and encouragement of Indian science on the West.
