Integration of Social Identities in the Self: Toward a Cognitive-Developmental Model.

The article presents a cognitive-developmental model of social identities in the self. A study reveals that classic intergroup theories address the situational, short-term changes in social identities, although it identifies the contextual and environmental factors that explain changes in social identification. The factors that facilitate versus impede social identity change process are also discussed.
