Abstract

The article reports that U.S. President George W. Bush asked Congress to formally approve a trade agreement with Colombia. Congress has 90 days to vote on the measure, which faces significant Democratic party opposition, including presidential candidates Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama. Analysts note voters are increasingly skeptical of U.S. free trade policies as the economy slides into a 2008 recession.
