FAIRGROUNDS HIGHLIGHTS SUSTAINABLE FACILITIES MANAGEMENT.

The article explores the recycling program at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in Del Mar, California. Owned and operated by the 22nd District Agricultural Association, the recycling facility hosts the annual San Diego County Fair, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Racing Meet, and a satellite wagering facility. The recycling program of the facility started in 1985 and has expanded to include recovery of more than 30 different materials including food wastes, beverage containers and cardboard. At the Annual County Fair, food vendors and exhibitors are contractually bound to join the preconsumer food scraps and cooking oil collection program.
