Abstract
- The article discusses the action taken by the government of Mexico City, Mexico to solve traffic congestion in the city. It has begun a two-billion-peso project to build a series of two-tier motorways: double-decker bypasses that will eventually grow to a total length of 35 kilometres. This follows an initiative to reorganise the city's roads in the 1970s, in which the city widened the main avenues into four- and five-lane highways, known as ejes viales, and at the same time making the majority of streets one way.
