Visual Voices: Heeding the Microcultural Contexts of Art.

The article discusses the microcultural contexts of art and its history. It states that the history of art was founded as a Western academic discipline upon the work of German theorists in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. In addition to pictures created with the observance of the Western concept of art, there are also those which are made outside of the West or in defiance, ignorance, or indifference to the idea of art.
