Abstract
- The article reports on the concerns of First Nations communities in Alberta regarding the health and environmental effects of oil sands development. Chief Allan Adam of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation stresses that they have seen a drastic change in water contamination going down the Athabasca River, which has a direct impact in the reserve. While, Councilor Willis Fleet expresses concerns coming within the community, including the high rates of various forms of cancer and lupus.
