Abstract

The article reports on research which was done in an effort to gather data with which to examine different types of tomography and computed tomography imaging as a potential modality to detect early malignancies in asymptomatic members of Li-Fraumeni syndrome type cancers, which have a genetic link. The research centered on family members of Li-Fraumeni syndrome patients who were offered computed tomography scanning as a screening test for the disease. Researchers found asymptomatic cancer in several subjects with the tomography and concluded that that the tomography could be used as a cancer surveillance strategy after concerns about radiation exposure are considered.
