Abstract
- The article focuses on the avant-garde musicians of Chicago, Illinois. Chicago produced several great musicians like Louis Armstrong during the 1920s and 1930s and postwar years saw saxophonist Johnny Griffin and pianist Lenny Tristano. The Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians was started by key musicians from Chicago namely, pianist Muhal Richard Abrams, saxophonist Fred Anderson, reedman Anthony Braxton and the members of the Art Ensemble of Chicago. The Chicago new wave included Saxophonist Matana Roberts and trumpeter Rob Mazurek.
