Abstract
- The article reports that royalties from chemical patents owned by U.S. universities have been helping the universities' chemistry departments and other operations. According to Northwestern's chemistry department chairman Joseph T. Hupp, royalties from its pain and epilepsy drug Lyrica have brought in more than $700 million. Royalties for patents owned by Emory University, Florida State University, New York University, University of Minnesota and Princeton University are also discussed.
