Abstract

The aim of this article is to study the law citied in family trials in the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata (1776-1810). In order to do that, we examine documents from the Archivo General de la Nación and Archivo de la Real Audiencia y Cámara de Apelación de Buenos Aires (Argentine Republic). We start with a description of the castillian norms about family, to continue then to study de Indian family law, the castillian-indian doctrine and finally the effective application of these fonts at the courts, so as to finish with the believe that, as far as family relations in the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata are concerned, the law citied and applied was a "blended" group made up by norms, doctrine and judicial practices, that together were part of the Corpus Iuris Indiarum.
