Abstract
- The article examines immigrant members of the U.S. armed forces who are seeking citizenship. In 2002, President George W. Bush promised to put such applications on a fast track for citizenship, but the bureaucratic delays created by the huge backlog of applications means that many service personnel wait months or even years before their applications are processed. At least one immigrant soldier has been killed in Iraq while awaiting action on citizenship.
